Gift Inspirations

A range of homemade gifts for your friends and family

Sometimes you might like to make a more personalised gift for close friends and family…to give them something special. There is such a large range of items that can be knitted such as children’s toys or useful adult gifts and knitting a gift also ensures any present is more personal.

Other ideas for handmade gifts are to sew different decorative materials such as shiny beads, colourful felt or buttons onto bought products to add a special touch or sparkle to plain items.

There is also a large range of plain wooden items that are relatively cheap to buy and are easily decorated with acrylic paints (and coated with varnish to seal). Names or decorations can be burnt onto wooden boxes or frames with a wood burning pen making these presents unique and personal.

Other items that can be used to decorate gifts are natural products such as moss, stones and straw or resin or wooden embellishments to add extra colour. There are endless decorative options available for purchase that you can stick or sew on from animals and fauna to ribbons and rhinestones.

You can use many different everyday items to create your handmade crafts. I’ve included some pictures I created out of various clock parts that I have called “Timely Moments”. One of these is a clock hanging in our kitchen depicting images that represent hobbies of someone we love who passed away and this is further personalised by using his own wristwatch to create something to remember him by. These “Timely Moments” require a lot of detailed work with each picture being carefully crafted using genuine watch parts to create an imaginative, memorable gift.
